What is the warranty on the Crystal Water Monitor, and what does it cover?
The Crystal Water Monitor comes with a 1-year warranty. After the first year, as long as the customer subscribes to the ongoing monitoring service ($99/year), the product is covered under a lifetime warranty. -
How does the Crystal Water Monitor detect the water volume?
During the initial setup, customers enter the volume of their pool, hot tub or swim spa into the app. -
Should the water be balanced when first installing the Crystal Water Monitor?
No, it is not required. -
How much manual input is required during setup and ongoing use?
Setup is quick and takes less than 4 minutes. After setup, you can enter the chemicals you use for water chemistry, allowing the system to provide accurate maintenance recommendations. -
What maintenance is needed for the Crystal Water Monitor Sensor?
No maintenance is required. If our AI detects an issue, we will notify you and send a replacement if you are a subscriber. -
What is the name of the mobile app?
The Crystal Water Monitor app is available on the Apple iOS App Store and Google Play Store. -
Are there WiFi requirements for the Crystal Water Monitor?
The device requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. The signal can reach up to 200 feet, but obstacles may reduce signal strength (i.e., walls, water, hills or hardscaping may reduce signal strength). -
What if my WiFi doesn’t reach the pool?
We recommend using a WiFi Range Extender to boost the signal. -
Can the Crystal Water Monitor Sensor stay in the water indefinitely?
Yes, it can remain in the water continuously. For long-term removal (i.e., winterization), store it with water in the sensor cap in a non-freezing environment. -
Can I use the monitor for both a pool and a spa?
No, the monitor is set up for either a pool or spa to retain accurate historical data. However, if your pool and spa share the same water, only one monitor is needed. -
Do I need to remove the monitor when the pool is in use?
No, it is safe to leave the monitor in the water while swimming. If removed temporarily, avoid relying on app recommendations until it has been back in the water for at least 30 minutes. -
Can the monitor connect to smart home devices?
Not currently, but smart home integration is on our roadmap. -
What is the life expectancy of the Crystal Water Monitor Sensor?
The sensor lasts about 3 years. For current subscribers, we will replace failed sensors for free. -
Is the monitor durable enough for pool play?
The Crystal Water Monitor is durable but not intended as a toy. It is best left alone to take measurements every 10 minutes. -
Will the monitor work with a saltwater pool or UV sanitizers?
Yes. The Crystal Water Monitor measures the water's ability to sanitize (ORP), regardless of the sanitizer type. There is a specific SKU for saltwater pools – although it doesn't specifically measure salt levels, it is specially designed to live and work in a saltwater environment 24/7. -
Can I connect multiple devices to the app?
Yes, you can connect multiple devices and view results simultaneously, even from different locations. -
Does the price include the first year of monitoring?
Yes, the first year of monitoring is included. -
How are chemical ranges set, and can I customize them?
Ranges are predetermined according to the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) and are not customizable. -
How is the monitor powered and connected to WiFi?
It is powered by 3 AA batteries and connects directly to your WiFi network. -
Can the monitor remain in the hot tub while in use?
Yes, it can remain in the water. If removed temporarily, avoid relying on app recommendations until it has been back in the water for at least 30 minutes. -
Does the monitor require special test strips?
No, while we provide 10 Lamotte Insta-Test 6-Way Pool & Spa test strips, you can use any test strips for testing Total Hardness, Total Alkalinity and Cyanuric Acid. -
What does the $99/year subscription cover?

What parameters does the monitor measure?
The Crystal Water Monitor measures pH, ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) and temperature. It does not measure salt, copper, iron or chlorine in ppm directly. -
Can the monitor help prevent algae outbreaks?
Yes, by continuously monitoring ORP, it helps maintain sanitizer effectiveness and prevent algae growth. -
Does the monitor work with Baquacil Systems?
No, it does not. It will measure pH, but it will not be able to measure sanitizer level in a Baquacil system. -
Does it work with bromine systems?
Yes, it does. -
What is the accuracy of the device?
- pH Sensor: ±0.1 ppm
- ORP Sensor: ±15mv -
Can the monitor be placed in the skimmer basket?
It is not recommended, as this may affect the accuracy of the chemical measurements. -
Can I use the monitor without a subscription?
Yes, but without an active subscription, you will only receive raw data (pH, ORP and temperature) without chemical dosing recommendations. You also don't receive alerts/notifications, and you won't get free replacement parts, i.e., if/when your sensor fails. -
Can this device work with above-ground pools?
Yes, the Crystal Water Monitor is compatible with above-ground pools, as well as inground pools, hot tubs and swim spas.
